JACKALS' SEASON ENDS IN GAME 5 LOSS TO EVERBLADES
April 11, 2010

The Elmira Jackals 2010 Kelly Cup Playoff run came to an end in the American Conference Quarterfinals, as the Jackals dropped a decisive Game 5 to the Florida Everblades on Sunday afternoon at First Arena in Elmira, N.Y., 4-3.

Similar to the way they started Games 1, 2, and 3, the Everblades came out of the gate with a goal in the first period. A loose puck on a scramble in front was knocked in by Mike Bayrack as the Everblades converted on the power play at 10:39 to take the 1-0 advantage.

At 6:55 of the second period, Milan Gajic banked a puck into the net off of a Jackals defenseman and the Everblades led 2-0.

A holding penalty and an illegal stick infraction on the Everblades at the 17:32 mark of the second period gave the Jackals a two-man advantage. Justin Donati took a backdoor feed from Yannick Tifu at the 18:26 mark to give the Jackals their first goal, and then Olivier Proulx redirected a Donati slap shot past Everblades goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu to even the score at 19:18, the Jackals' second power-play goal in a span of 52 seconds.

The Everblades, however, came out firing in the third period with six consecutive shots on goal. One of them beat Jackals goaltender Chris Holt glove side off the stick of Matthew Pistilli from the high slot at 2:23 for the crucial go-ahead goal, giving the Everblades a 3-2 lead.

Florida's defense prevented the Jackals from scoring for most of the remainder of the game, and a Gajic empty-net goal from center ice at 19:05 sealed the series win for the Everblades.

Maxime Gratchev added a goal for the Jackals with 0.3 seconds remaining in the third period, but the Everblades held on for the 4-3 victory.

Beckford-Tseu made 30 saves on 33 Jackals shots, ending the series with a 3-2 record. Holt made 29 saves on 32 shots in the loss, as his series record ended at 2-3.

Game 5 had many similarities to Game 1 of the series. Besides the score being 4-3 in favor of the Everblades, the teams tied in shots on goal, 33-33, like Game 1 when it was 27-27. Ross Carlson, the Everblades captain, missed Games 2, 3, and 4 but had two assists each in Games 1 and 5, and there was a goal scored at the 19:59 mark of a period, in Game 5 by Gratchev and in Game 1 by Scott Hotham in the second session.

Justin Donati led the Jackals in playoff scoring with seven assists and nine points. Chaz Johnson had three goals to pace the Jackals, but missed most of Game 5 after leaving in the first period with an injury.

The Jackals would like to thank their fans for leading the league with 13 sellouts this season and for supporting the Jackals in the two preseason games, 72 regular season contests, and five playoff battles.

Season tickets for the 2010-2011 Jackals season are available by calling (607) 734-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the First Arena Box Office.
